Spokeswoman for Al Gore Does Not Dispute Electric Bills

advertisement

A spokeswoman for former Vice President Al Gore did not dispute the electric bills of Gore's Nashville home that a local conservative group recently criticized, but listed the ways the Gores are trying to be environmentally friendly.

Monday, a day after Gore's documentary on global warming, An Inconvenient Truth, won an Oscar, the Tennessee Center for Policy Research (TCPR) sent out a press release saying Gore "deserves a gold statue of hypocrisy" for his energy use in his Belle Meade-area home.

This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

I think it is important to note that Mr. Gore does not dispute that his energy consumption is what the TCPR reported. Its pretty hard to call the report a smear if Mr. Gore agrees with its numbers, don't you agree?

You can make all the arguments you want about Mr. Gore reducing his carbon footprint but until I see him actually removing the carbon dioxide from the atmosphere(PDF) I'm not buying it.

I guess the solar, the wind energy he pays a premium for also falls on deaf ears with you? That he gets his energy from "green" energy is meaningless to you? The fact thatg a good portion of his elec bill doesnt come from a sngle carbon atom? And that he is applying to reduce even more how many carbon atoms it takes to produce his elec. kind of a hard fact to miss dont you think? My elect is $300 a month, I am horrible right? I believe in gloabl warming why isnt my elec zero? Beside for MY CARBON credits, all my elec comes from a dam. And we dont have to burn it for it to work.

Believe it or not, i dont care, AL Gore IS NOT the sole cause of global warming.

I think that everone suscribing to this swiftboating of Al Must agree that gloabl warming is real and man made, because if it is just hot air, then who cares what als electricity bill is.

Well, yes it is very easy to call it a smear. Here goes: Its a smear. How dare the rightwing pundits bash Al for living the lifestyle that they all religiously covet? How dare they? The answer is because they can. No where does Mr. Gore say that we should all go to driving horses and buggies, sell our cars, use candle light and retreat to mud huts. This is purely the false premises of the Hannitys and Coulters. I know its a rough news week for the reich wing.. the fact they have nothing else to talk about speaks volumes about the vacuousness of their agenda. Also, as I've stated before.. his house is easily 20 times the size of the average house.. so the whiningt about his usage is petty at best.

Thank you for putting this so close to the to of the page,

the fact they have nothing else to talk about speaks volumes about the vacuousness of their agenda

I've posted two seeds on the issue and I believe Nobel Peace Prize Nominee Bohdi1 seeded one article. On the Other Hand I can count five articles defending Mr. Gore, not seeds but articles, I think you better rethink which side has all the time fill.

his house is easily 20 times the size of the average house.. so the whining about his usage is petty at best.

This seam like a pretty weak argument to me, I'm not just being critical of his electric bill but of his entire lifestyle, if we wants energy consumption to be lower it should begin with himself.

How dare the rightwing pundits bash Al for living the lifestyle that they all religiously covet?

actually I think 20 rooms is kind of small.

So you are saying that because he believes in energy conservation and clean energy that he should put on a hairshirt and live in a hut... please... I appreciate that most non-judgemental opinion.

In truth, most Republicans don't care about his energy bill. He pays for it. It's his smarmy condescension toward everyone else that makes people point out his hypocrisy.

I sort of dig the left wing defense though; "But he has a 25,000 squ. foot house - of course he has a huge electric bill." ha ha

So we're supposed to mitigate our existence but environmental royalty gets to have a 25K foot house? I haven't felt this warmly egalitarian since reading about the old USSR.

Hey, hot environmental chicks - my house is only 4200 squ feet, so I am 6X as environmentally conscious as Al Gore. Now get over here and bake me a pie.

You have to bake pies in the oven, and that's not very carbon friendly.

...You can't win with these vegan/lesbian/environmental women.

It depends. Not all scientists are at universities ... some of us work for a living. You just have to invent something. Since Mr. Gore invented the internet I suspect he would have been rich either way.

I know the swiftboating works but really eventually it could back fire, especially when you drone on and on about something no one really cares about. I am glad you want to see Al actually remove carbon from the air, i would like to see him do both remove it and use less. But his carbon offsets and credits actually fund programs like carbon sequestation.
Seriously I know the swiftboating works, but i think you have to have a real issue, things like obama smoking or gores electic bills make you look really really bad.
And I really could care less if al gore burns oil to heat his yard, I dont care if al gore has a methane generator just to put methane in our atmosphere. I dont care if al gore did invent the internet. Not one of those things reduce the threat of gloabl warming.... unlike carbon credits that do.

A couple yewars ago, Ann Huffington made a big deal about how we peons should be using less energy, and become more environmentally concious. That is, until it was made known that she owns 2-3 humongous houses, is flown in a private jet, owns several SUVs, etc., etc.

Seems these airheaded liberals wants the rest of us to use less so they can live their grand lifestyle, completed unabated with such folishness as saving energy, etc.

To these liberals, just say no!

Huck, I couldnt agree with you more!

And why does Gore think that buying some "green gas" credits is going to discount his excessive use of natural resources? At the very least, he should be standing at the border preventing those mexicans from coming north, and placing greater stress on the environment of the U.S. You'd thnk Gore would eventually come up with something useful to do with his life.

of course, there is global warming---or else the northern part of North America would still be covered by ice.

The real question is whether or not industrial "man" is all of a sudden responsible for something which has been occurring naturally for millions of years...in a continual long term trend.

And, a secondary question, of course, is whether the invention of "carbon credits" (naturally penalizing some and rewarding others) is something worthwhile or something that promotes economic efficiency.

And, thirdly, does a snake oil salesman (who previously claimed to invent the internet) and currently owns a carbon credit company have any creditability???

Personally, I will wait for a balanced panel of true scientists to debate the issue before deciding anything..
