China Has the Right Idea with Regard to Global Warming

advertisement

China will not allow the rest of the world to dictate how they should respond to the mass hysteria known as Global Warming. They've gone even further than refusing to curb their so-called carbon emissions, they're warning wealthy western nations not to interfere with a developing country.

Nothing like a lesson in free market economics from a communist country. China knows that the life blood of economic prosperity in the world is oil and they need it as much, if not more, than countries such as the United States in order to sustain their mind blowing growth.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

I posted a related article on China's policy in this regard.

From the linked article,

China echoed the Bush administration's stance on global warming Monday, refusing to set firm caps on its greenhouse-gas emissions and saying that economic growth remained its "first and overriding priority."

I couldn't agree more

Then move there. Somehow I don't think you actually want Chinese levels of regulatory oversight, though. Unless you consider melamine a health food.

It doesn't really seem like China has a point and neither does Bush. Time and again, as states enact their own efforts to curb global warming thorugh economic incentives designed to increase investment in new technologies, we see that doing so actually HELPS economies and adds jobs. Even capping carbon emissions on power plants or taxing the emissions they put out would do the same thing as it would require new technologies to be introduced into the market place.
